Decarbonizing our world is a global imperative
Decarbonizing our future for people, planet and profit
In our relentless effort to decarbonize our world, we cultivate new ideas and pursue disruptive innovation to change the energy sector. We use proprietary technology and process improvements to develop creative solutions that reduce carbon emissions and decrease operating costs. Without compromising prudent business practices or sound engineering principles, we help our customers transition to a new economy that is rapidly shifting toward a greener future for all.
People
By decarbonizing our buildings, we support a just transition to a green economy that is not only economically prudent but also equitably beneficial. Our innovative climate change solutions overcome physical and financial constraints to reduce carbon emissions in our communities without punitive consequences. The burden and benefits that come with changing behaviour should be shared equally. To that end, we strive to improve quality of life for all without the sacrifice of any.
Planet
Buildings account for over a third of global GHG emissions and consume over half the electricity generated. GHG emissions increase global surface temperatures causing wildfires that destroy forests, life, and property. Arctic ice melts twice as fast raising sea levels and decimating coastal communities. These changes affect all of us with higher healthcare costs and lost productivity. Decarbonizing our buildings mitigates these life-threatening changes allowing us time to build a better future.
Profit
Decarbonizing our communities is an economic imperative. The global economy depends on it. Mitigating the macroeconomic consequences of climate change should be reason enough to take action, but decarbonizing our buildings also has immediate financial benefits. Innovative energy solutions like Noventa’s WET™ systems reduce operating costs, avoid commodity price volatility and future-proof building operations. They demonstrate that sustainable energy choices are economically prudent.
Toronto Western Hospital
World's Largest Raw Wastewater Energy Project
The WET™ system will use thermal energy from wastewater flowing through the sewer to supply up to 90 percent of the campus' heating and cooling needs, reducing the hospital’s direct greenhouse gas emissions by about 8,400 metric tonnes each year. That’s the equivalent of removing 1,811 cars from the road.
Innovations for a real sustainable future
Technology Innovation
Noventa's core mission to decarbonize our planet starts with creative and innovative solutions using new technology to produce clean and efficient energy. Our partnership with industry leaders like HUBER and Trane allows us to customize our Wastewater Energy Transfer™ Systems to meet the unique needs and challenges inherent in every project. Each HUBER ThermWin® system is purpose built for each project and all Trane heat pumps and controls are customized to seamlessly integrate with each project HVAC system – and where challenges persist, Noventa’s proprietary methods and innovation will bridge the gap.
Construction Innovation
With over 100 years of collective energy industry experience, our leadership team has a proven track record delivering large scale infrastructure projects in challenging dense urban settings.
Our teams’ success dates back to Toronto’s Deep Lake Water Cooling system, which we designed, built and commissioned in two years. Innovative design was improved by creative value engineering, allowing us to deliver the world’s largest lake water cooling project, without compromising drinking water safety and saving the city millions of dollars in treatment costs.
Risk Mitigating Innovation
We do not shy away from challenges. Through our relentless pursuit of innovation, we develop strategies and practices to mitigate risks which can derail projects. Our patented supplementary feedwater method, for instance, mitigates the risk of material wastewater temperature fluctuations which could affect the chilled water supplied by our WET™ system. Developed from our experience with Toronto’s Deep Lake Water Cooling system, this patented process improvement allows us to safely reject heat to potable water entering a facility to augment the cooling produced by the WET™ System during spikes in wastewater temperature.
Financial Innovation
Noventa’s WET™ Systems are developed using the triple bottom line to achieve social , environmental and fiscal benefits. By leveraging the deep resources and access to capital of our major shareholder, Ancala Partners LLC, we are able to develop customized financial arrangements that address the unique circumstances and budget constraints of each customer. Through creative ownership structures and service delivery models, for instance, we are able to build WET™ Systems, that achieve environmental goals with energy savings while allowing customers to retain project ownership or title to property.
